Why Do I Keep Attracting Emotionally Unavailable Partners?

Lately, more women have been coming to me with the same questions:
“Why do I keep attracting partners who can’t fully meet me?”
“Why am I always the one trying to change?”
“How can I be SO aware of this toxic dynamic & my partner is clueless or unwilling to change?”
The more I’ve been writing & sharing about relational dynamics, the more I see just how present this pattern of attracting emotionally unavailable partners is, and how many of us are feeling ready to finally rewrite it.”
So many of us long for connection & intimacy, only to be met with our deepest wounds once we get closer to it.
Instead of shying away, let’s lean in...
What’s underneath the pattern of attracting emotionally unavailable partners?
Each person’s relational history & tendencies are unique, but there are a few common themes that show up when we find ourselves wanting more & being disappointed in romantic love...
1) Old attachment wounds resurfacing.
If you had to earn love, chase connection, or navigate emotional inconsistency growing up, your nervous system may expect that same dynamic in adult relationships. Unavailable partners can feel eerily familiar, like a puzzle you need to solve to be worthy of love.
Until you take a look at this pattern and begin working to heal it, you’ll keep playing out the same old game of cat-and-mouse.
2) A hidden fear of intimacy.
Even if you crave deep, soul-level love, parts of you may still fear being fully seen or getting hurt. So, you unconsciously choose people who keep you at a distance because it feels safer. It's not.
Here’s the truth: Soul-level love & deep intimacy may scare the shit out of you & bring up all your darkest fears. You cannot avoid this. It’s through facing these fears that you’ll begin to find real connection.
3) Outdated beliefs about self-worth.
“If I just love them enough, they’ll change.”
“If I prove I’m safe, they’ll open up.”
Love does not have to be a test. Until you begin to access deeper self-love and connect to your innate worthiness, you will continue spending your precious life force trying to become someone or something you're not - a savior to your partner.
You can’t want someone's healing more than they want it for themselves.
4) Healing is magnetic.
If you’re someone who feels deeply, who holds compassionate space, and who truly sees people, others may be drawn to your light. But if your partner can’t meet you in your fullness, it’s not because you’re “too much”; it’s more likely that they’re not available to themselves yet.
So, what do you do when these old patterns show up?
You don’t chase them. You don’t fix them. You see them as a mirror.
And you choose, again and again, to be deeply available to yourself.
You choose relationships that are nourishing, reciprocal, and real.
You remember that your softness, your depth, and your heart, deserve a home where they are met, not managed or tolerated.
